Description
Perisphinctes is a genus of ammonites that inhabited the seas in the Jurassic period, during the heyday of the dinosaurs and marine reptiles. It is characteristic of Madagascar ammonites to be replaced by calcite with admixtures of other minerals. As a result, the ammonite is colored in a range of yellow, beige and orange tones. If the sections of the shell were not filled with silt or sand, then crystal growth begins in the shell during fossilization, and this can be clearly seen in this specimen.
