Description
Phylloceras is a genus of small ammonites from the Cretaceous. The clam shells were mostly 8 to 10 cm in diameter and rarely grew to 20 cm. Numerous ammonites were predators that preyed on fish fry and invertebrates in the water column. Their shells have a smooth surface, devoid of relief outgrowths and ridges. The beautiful pattern of the lobed line resembling the interlacing of leaves and twigs catches the eye.
