Description
Discosauriscus austriacus is a reptiliomorph from the Early Permian era (270- 290 Ma). This small animal, about 20 cm long, possessed both amphibian and reptilian characteristics.
The scales and skull structure of the Discosauriscus are characteristic of early reptiles. However, the Discosauriscus had a lateral line and laid eggs. All existing specimens of Discosauriscus are either "tadpoles" or neotenic specimens. No adult specimens of these animals were found, which is in fact also typical of some modern amphibians.
The skeleton is well preserved. The left forelegs and hind legs are set aside while the right ones are tucked under the body. The structure of the skull, the spine, the upper and lower limb girdles are well distinguished. This specimen will look great as part of a professional paleontological collection.
