Cleoniceras is a genus of large ammonites that lived in the seas during the Cretaceous period. Their shells are found in sedimentary rocks in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. However, the most beautiful ammonites are mined in Madagascar.

Their shells were replaced by calcite, which comes in the most incredible colors under the impact of other minerals. The base color of the Madagascar ammonites is amber-red, however leaf-like pattern of paddle lines overlays on top of it. The shells, covered with intricate ornaments, become real works of art.
