Description
Douvilleiceras is a genus of ammonites that lived during the Cretaceous Period. These cephalopod mollusks could be found in warm coastal seas all over the world.
A characteristic feature of the entire genus Douvilleiceras is a relief shell. Its surface is covered with transverse ridges, which makes the fossil look like a tractor tire. In Madagascar, these mollusks are even called "tractor ammonites".
The outer layer of the shell is very thin and has a beautiful beige coloring. In some places, an iridescent shimmer is noticeable - these are areas of mineralized nacre. The shell looks aesthetically pleasing and fits well in the interior.
