Description
Camarasaurus is one of the most recognizable sauropods. All these long- necked and long-tailed giants look similar, but the characteristic, almost square skull easily distinguishes Camarasaurus.
The dimensions of Camarasaurus were relatively small: the largest specimen was 23 m long and weighed "only" 47 tons. This herbivorous giant grazed the plains of North America.
The tooth of Camarasaurus is large, massive, with a pointed top, very different from the teeth of other sauropods. It is considered that the main food of Camarasaurus was tough vegetation: araucaria needles, leaves of ferns and cycads.
Strong sharp teeth helped to strip the needles from the branches and bite the shoots and petioles of the leaves. The Camarasaurus swallowed stones to grind the plant mass.
Every dinosaur lover can appreciate this wonderful specimen.
