Description
Tooth of Gorgosaurus, a large tyrannosaurid that lived in Canada. The tooth has a conical shape, typical for the whole tyrannosaurid family, with a slight bend and an elliptical section. Cutting edges with a well-defined sawtooth lip are noticeable on the concave and convex sides of the tooth. Gorgosaurus lived 76 - 75 million years ago, 9-10 million years before the tyrannosaurus rex. Their habitat was coniferous forests with an undergrowth of ferns and shrubs. It is assumed that the main prey of Gorgosaurus were numerous duck-billed dinosaurs, while baby Gorgosaurus occupied an ecological niche of medium-sized predators, attacking small dinosaurs, large lizards and mammals.
